about

Duquette Johnston used his past three records as a chance to explore his relationship with Alabama, where he’s been a fixture in the music scene for over twenty years. He was a founding member of such influential bands as Verbena and Cutgrass. Along the way, he's shared the stage with such acts as Pavement, Foo Fighters, Bonnie Prince Billy, The Strokes, and many more.

Duquette’s most recent release, Rabbit Runs A Destiny, shows a musician firmly in control of his craft, but unafraid to grow and dig deeper. These songs mark a new journey for Johnston. And many are taking notice.

In fact, Duquette was the featured artist on NPR’s World Café where they recommended Rabbit Runs A Destiny as an album to watch in 2013.

With mastermind Armand Margjeka at the producer’s helm, Rabbit Runs A Destiny runs the gamut, from stripped-down acoustic tracks to enormous crashes of drums, haunting strings and thick vocal harmonies.

“Rabbit Runs a Destiny explores new territory with rich vocal harmonies, luring string arrangements and hearty drums.” (12 Alabama Bands You Should Listen To Now) – PASTE

“Rabbit Runs a Destiny finds Johnston rummaging through a toolbox of new sounds and production, and he does rather surprising things with what he finds.” – POPMATTERS

“The track (Cherry Blossom) seamlessly bridges the gap between Americana of yesteryear with the more robust musical sounds permeating throughout the modern musical landscape.” – My Old Kentucky Blog

“Next Artist To Watch”
- David Dye, NPR, The World Café

“There’s a lot of singer-songwriters slinging guitars and singing their hearts out, but few are capable of going deep into the surface of the human experience with as much eloquence and songwriting craft as Johnston does.”
- Bruce Warren, WXPN

“A welcome return… Like Iron & Wine, Conor Oberst and Strand of Oaks, Johnston’s take on Americana has a uniquely honest and revealing voice.”
– NPR
